Right now we are experimenting with different ad layouts to see what works (to try to generate enough cash to cover server fees without being annoying). The position of the ad will be moving around the screen every couple of days for a while.
Why Do We Have Ads?
LyricWiki has enjoyed great popularity, but along with that comes considerable hosting costs. We serve up more than a million pages per day to normal web traffic, web-spiders and to media-players through our free API. The costs for hosting a machine capable of doing that quickly have started to pile up. LyricWiki's parent-site, Pedlr, has been absorbing the costs, but that can't go on forever.
We're working on opening up the finances of LyricWiki so that users can see exactly what our costs are and how well/poorly we make up for them each month.
