Song: Ten Years After:I'm Going Home (Live at Woodstock)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I've never seen the full Woodstock film, but I managed to find this TYA performance on YouTube. Rocking about 11 minutes, Alvin Lee displays a lot of his influences, including a sample of Elvis Presley's "Blue Suede Shoes" early into the song. I think "I'd Love To Change The World" really only scratches the surface of TYA's career. This is the performance that made them. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: The Dubliners:Kilkelly
Nominated By: Ahti
Reason: This song's lyrics are based on letters sent to a son in America by a father left behind in Kilkelly, Co. Mayo. Written in the 19th century. I think that this song is very touching. There are plenty of versions on Youtube, but the lyrics are all the same, so I linked the only version of the lyrics, which I could find. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Def Leppard:Photograph (feat. Taylor Swift)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I found this performance from CMT Crossroads on YouTube, and it really rocks. Def Leppard can still rock with the best of them, and it's amazing that Taylor Swift is only 19. Check it out: YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Journey:Any Way You Want It
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Apparently influenced by Thin Lizzy front man Phil Lynott, this was one of Journey's biggest hits, reaching the Top 40, but falling just shy of the Top 20. Steve Perry has an amazing voice, and Neal Schon's guitar playing matches it completely. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: The Clash:Should I Stay Or Should I Go
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: One of the most recognizable songs from the 1980s punk rock scene, this is one of The Clash's signature songs after "London Calling". It wasn't a hit on the pop chart, but it did reach the Top 20 on the Mainstream Rock chart. In my book, it's a classic either way. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Deep Purple:Hush
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: The second track from Deep Purple's debut album is a far cry from the band's hard rock sound of years to come, but it's an awesome song from their catalogue. It's a shame Rod Evans didn't stick around. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: The Doors:The WASP (Texas Radio And The Big Beat)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: An uncharacteristically bluesy song by The Doors, the lyrics are based upon a poem Jim Morrison wrote in 1968. And I don't know why, but the spoken-word lyrics just seem to fit the song more than if they'd been sung.

Song: The Doors:Riders On The Storm
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Surpisingly reaching the Top 20 on the chart, this was the last track on The Doors' last album before Jim Morrison's death. I love the final fade out, with the sound of the pattering rain. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Billy Idol:White Wedding
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I never knew the song only reached #34 on the pop chart; I thought it charted much higher. But no matter where it peaked, it's still a classic on radio stations and more than memorable. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: The Yardbirds:Boom Boom
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: This is one of The Yardbirds' best blues covers (before they shifted towards pop with "For Your Love"). They were able to take John Lee Hooker's song and make it their own, while keeping it true to the original. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: The Statler Brothers:Flowers On The Wall
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: An amusing country song from The Statler Brothers, it was a hit on both the Billboard Country chart and the Hot 100. It also gained exposure from its use in Pulp Fiction, and later when Bruce Willis referenced it in Die Hard with a Vengeance. Take a listen: Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: REO Speedwagon:Ridin' The Storm Out (Live)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I've never been an REO Speedwagon fan before, but I think this is one of the greatest arena rock songs ever. The original studio version just doesn't compare to live REO. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Jefferson Airplane:Somebody To Love
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: This is one my favorite songs from the psychedelic 60s. Grace Slick has got such an awesome voice, and it ties the whole song together. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Jefferson Airplane:White Rabbit
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I think this song is even more acid rocking than "Somebody to Love". I love how the song builds and builds until the ending release. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Grimus:Backseat Driver
Nominated By:Duke puccini
Reason: This song is one of my all-time favorites. It was a radio hit in 2009, topping several charts for many weeks and the lyrics are beautiful. It has been my "song of the day" for many days this year. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: The Firm:Radioactive
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: The Firm's only Top 40 hit, it's a far cry from the music of Bad Company and Led Zeppelin. But that's why it rocks; it shows that Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers can move past their respective hard rocking sounds. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Kanon Wakeshima:Still Doll
Nominated By: Mimiko
Reason: Well, first of all, the melody is of the "haunting" kind (gotta love Visual-Kei), and the lyrics are absolutely...well...they're kind of haunting too, the Kanon having a conversation with some kind of doll named "Miss Alice" throught the whole song, which although creepy, I love. Plus, it reminds me of my best friend. She showed me this song. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Radiohead:Videotape
Nominated By: 99.128.249.220
Reason: "'Videotape" is a beautiful example of Radiohead's ability to make a song both simple and intricate at once. Backed by a single repeating piano bar, Thom Yorke sings from the perspective of a dying man recording a final message to his loved ones. The sparse arrangement and Yorke's signature falsetto give this song a powerfully emotional sound; the final verse nearly reduced me to tears the first time I heard it. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: James Taylor:Carolina In My Mind
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Originally being from North Carolina, I can really connect to this song. It's soft-spoken, but it's incredibly powerful. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Weezer:Buddy Holly
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: One of three hit singles from the Blue Album, this is my favorite after "My Name Is Jonas". Rivers Cuomo is a great songwriter, and Ric Ocasek knows how to produce great music. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Stealers Wheel:Stuck In The Middle With You
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Infamous for its use in the ear-cutting scene in Reservoir Dogs, this Dylanesque pop song was Stealers Wheel's biggest hit. While it's completely different, I have to admit it's amazing how much the harmony sounds like Dylan.

Song: Ali Project:地獄の季節
Nominated By: Mimiko
Reason: Literally meaning, "The Season of Hell", it has to be one of Ali Project's creepiest songs. And although it bares a resemblance in melody to one of their other songs ("Gesshouku Grand Guignol"), (probably because of the synthesizer common in their songs involving Neo-Classicism), reading the lyrics gave me the chills. Not to mention, Arika Takarano uses her amazing voice, yet again, ;) YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Five Man Electrical Band:Signs
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Initially ignored upon its release as the "B" side to "Hello Melinda Goodbye", it became popular (eventually hitting #3 on the chart) when it was re-released as the "A" side. While I like the Tesla version, there's a reason the original is a classic. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Tesla:Signs
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: One of Tesla's most popular tracks from Five Man Acoustical Jam, it's remained a radio classic for almost twenty years. Their acoustic set can rock just as much as their electrical sets. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Kiss:Beth
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Originally released as the "B" side to "Detroit Rock City", it shocked the entire Kiss Army when "Beth" became the more popular single. While it's not a typical hard-rocking Kiss song, it remains only one of two gold-selling singles for the band, and was the first of two Top 10 hits. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Paramore:Misery Business
Nominated By: Mimiko
Reason: It got me out fo my endless ring of listening to nothing but Japanese music (and made me realize that not all American music is bad, ;) ), for one. Also, really good, beat, rather odd lyrics, that at times didn't make sense to me, but a very, very good song. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: 38 Special:Hold On Loosely
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Donnie Van Zant isn't as famous as his brother Ronnie was, but that didn't stop 38 Special from scoring this Top 30 hit in 1981. This is one of the best Southern rock songs from the decade, without a doubt. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Joe Cocker:Feelin' Alright
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Quickly overshadowing the original version by Traffic, it was Joe Cocker's fifth Top 40 hit. Artie Butler's piano playing supports the song perfectly. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Bob Seger:Like A Rock
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Famous for its use in Chevrolet truck commercials in the 1990s, it's one of Bob Seger's most popular songs from 1986. At almost six minutes long, I'm surprised it broke into the Top 20. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Toto:Bottom Of Your Soul
Nominated By: 91.49
Reason: This song is from Toto's last album Falling In Between. It is a beautiful emotional song dealing with poverty. Whereas the verses are sung by guitarist Steve Lukather, the chorus and the final part feature former lead singer Joseph Williams, whose outstanding performance and voice provide the special something to an already great song. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Raffi:Big Beautiful Planet
Nominated By: Andrew Horne
Reason: I sang this song with my classmates in chorus class when I was in elementary school. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Panic At The Disco:That Green Gentleman
Nominated By: applepanic
Reason: Even though Panic At The Disco's second album, Pretty. Odd. did not receive as much radio time as their first, this song, from the second album, is absolutely stellar. It speaks of change, happiness, and love in a kind of way that is positive, and you don't find that very among younger artists these days. Also, Panic at the Disco is just a great band in general because they love their fans. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Five For Fighting:If God Made You
Nominated By: Superman Jr.
Reason: "100 Years" is probably Five for Fighting's most well-known song. Straight off the same album, The Battle For Everything, comes "If God Made You", which is as good as if not better than "100 Years".

Song: Colosseum:I Can't Live Without You
Nominated By: Tody G.
Reason: One of the songs of a band so unheard of, yet produced 5 albums in the space of 2 years. Their genre is described as jazz-rock. Isn't their best song, but in my opinion the best to start with listening to them.

Song: Yelle:À Cause Des Garçons
Nominated By: Rumpleteazer
Reason: Such a catchy song from the French singer Yelle. She's best known for "Je Veux Te Voir", but this song is well worth listening to as well. Still her style, but very different. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Flo Rida:Right Round
Nominated By: joe77
Reason: Recently at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, this is a very fun song to listen to, and was performed on American Idol on April 9, 2009. Greatest song in a while, and 5 stars in my book. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Counting Crows:Omaha
Nominated By: the billness
Reason: This song has so many messages intertwined in it. Its depth must truly be experienced as explaining it would merely fall short. All of these stories have one common thread, love is what matters. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: The Darkness:I Believe In A Thing Called Love
Nominated By: ROFLer
Reason: What can't be said about this song? Awesome? Insane? Stupidly awesome? Justin Hawkins' vocals are INCREDIBLE. He is hands down the best male singer I've heard in a long time. The Darkness are a one-hit wonder in the U.S., but they were massive in England until they broke up in 2006. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Daniel Powter:Bad Day
Nominated By: 76.27.73.194
Reason: One of the all-time best songs the world has ever known with numerous credits to its name, I was shocked to find this song wasn't already on the SOTD list! How could anyone not like this song? Perfect for happy times or when you've had a... you get the picture. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Nevio:Non Ti Aspettavo (Libertà) Duetto con Gabriella Cilmi
Nominated By: AsterixObelix
Reason: Gabriella Cilmi and Nevio make a perfect voice duet. The lyrics are beautiful and the song feels like summer. I love this song. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: The Outlaws:Song In The Breeze
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Outlaws is made up of some great music, and this is one of my favorite tracks. It's a bit more country music than rock, but that doesn't stop it from being a lot of fun to sing. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Blackfoot:Diary Of A Workingman
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I first discovered this song after Mick Foley mentioned it in his autobiography Have a Nice Day!, and it's become one of my favorite Blackfoot songs. Its transition from somber Southern rock to hard rock and back is incredibly moving. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Meat Loaf:Bat Out Of Hell
Nominated By: springheel
Reason: "Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven I'll come crawling on back to you." Is there really a song that encapsulates teenage rebellion, desperation, and burning love any more thoroughly than "Bat Out Of Hell"? Sometimes a song is worth a thousand sonnets. Meat Loaf and "Bat Out Of Hell" have a lot more to say about love than Shakespeare -- and the last line of the chorus says it all.Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: REO Speedwagon:Can't Fight This Feeling
Nominated By: Alice2
Reason: This song is just beautiful. I first learned of its existence through the recent Horton Hears a Who! movie, but no recording can compare to the original. It's no shock that it hit number one on the charts. "'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore..." Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones:The Impression That I Get
Nominated By: 76.27.73.194
Reason: A sweet song that combines nice guitar work and beat with that "listen to me" trumpet, it calls attention to itself as a song and also as one of my faves. This song is one whose lyrics make you start to, if even for a moment, look to oneself. It's also one that all can associate with on some level, as all have at one time "been close to tragedy" and "had the odds stacked up so high you need a strength most don't possess." A memorable song that I first heard as a kid in the Digimon movie. I still remember its unique beat and lyrics to this day. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Metallica:The Unforgiven
Nominated By: 6metal6
Reason: One of my favourite songs by Metallica, tho it is considered one of their "softer" songs, it never disappoints me with great story telling by James Hetfield. This track is featured on their fifth album Metallica (the black album). Listen to immediately! Search for audio on Playlist.com

Song: Britney Spears:Gimme More
Nominated By: FoSho
Reason: This song was basically the start of Britney Spears' comeback. It was, at the time, her highest charting single since ..."Baby One More Time" back in 1999. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar

Song: Joan Jett And The Blackhearts:I Love Rock N' Roll
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: After leaving The Runaways, Joan Jett found a quick #1 hit with this cover of the Arrows song. It's one of the true '80s classics. YouTube Music video on YouTube

Song: Bob Seger:Katmandu
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: With its piano-heavy intro, it's a classic Bob Seger song from Beautiful Loser. While it just barely missed the Top 40, I'm surprised it charted as high as it did. Kingnee_-_Go_Ear.png Audio on GoEar
