[edit] Criteria

  1. Please add your nomination to the bottom of the list below. Only nominate albums with existing song pages. Nominations where the album name is a red link will be rejected.
  2. A nomination needs to be something more than just "I like this album." At a minimum give a thoughtful, personal reason why you like the album. (In other words, if your reason could apply to any album, or it is just trivia about the album, it needs something more.) Keep the reason short and to the point. You have about 5 lines to use.
  3. When providing a reason for nomination, please make sure that it is written in coherent English. It doesn't need to be perfect grammar, but it should show that some effort was put into it. Anything else will be held back until it is corrected.
  4. Check to ensure that the album has not been Album Of The Week before.
  5. Albums should have album art and be formatted according to Help:Contents/Editing/Formatting/Albums before being moved to the queue.
  • Although not necessary for inclusion as Album of the Week, it is beneficial if the song pages include YouTube and audio links whenever available. If you love the album enough for it to be AOTW, let others enjoy the music too!
While you are at it, you may also want to nominate a few of the songs for Song of the Day!

Album: Yuki Kajiura:Fiction (2003)
Nominated By: ExampleUser
Reason: This album is from the only artist that I have liked every single song that she has worked on. Album: Lynyrd Skynyrd:(pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd) (1973)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: I wasn't alive when Lynyrd Skynyrd released their debut album, but after hearing these songs on the radio, I can imagine the album's impact on the music industry. Supported by the nine-minute anthem "Free Bird", and the seven and a half minute "Tuesday's Gone", Pronounced has everything a Southern rock fan needs. "Gimme Three Steps" and "Simple Man" remain classics on classic rock radio, and "Free Bird" has been the band's signature song for thirty-five years. I definitely think it deserves to be an album of the week.

Album: Bad Company:Desolation Angels (1979)
Nominated By: 99.194.74.186
Reason: Bad Co. produced some of its best songs in this album, which is frighteningly underrated. One of their best songs "Rock 'N Roll Fantasy" came from this album, as did the anthems "Oh, Atlanta" and Rock 'N Roll Fantasy". Truly, it's one of the best classic rock albums ever recorded.

Album: U2:How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (2004)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: This isn't my favorite U2 album, but it certainly has its moments. Supported by the singles "Vertigo", "All Because Of You", "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own", "City Of Blinding Lights", and "Original Of The Species", the album and the singles won all of the Grammy Awards they were nominated for, including Album of the Year. "Vertigo" debuted at #1 on the UK single chart, while reaching the Top 40 in the U.S., and the album itself reached #1. It's a great album; I'd reccomend it to any U2 fan.

Album: Sigur Rós:Takk... (2005)
Nominated By: Superman Jr.
Reason: Any Sigur Rós album deserves to be Album of the Week. The Icelandic band's music is so mysterious and beautiful, it's hard not to like their music. Takk... in particular contains music that stuns the listener. The album starts with some happier tunes, with the album track, "Takk... (an instrumental piece) and Glósóli. The next track, Hoppípolla, is one of the best and most well-known songs by Sigur Rós. The album also includes Sæglópur and Gong, some of my favorites. The BBC has used various tracks from the album in its programs. Takk... reached #24 on the UK charts and #27 on the US Charts.

Album: Daft Punk:Discovery (2001)
Nominated by: j450
Reason:After 5 years of wait from the last album, "Homework" the French duo came back in 2001 to present their new material. Mainly, the difference between "Homework" and "Discovery" are the various changes in rhythm, tone, notes, drums, guitars, basses, etc. "Homework" stays in a way while "Discovery" has such a variety of electronic styles in only 14 songs. These songs, for their different tune and rhythm, could make a movie two years later called "Interstella 5555: The 5tory Of The 5ecret 5olar 5ystem", living proof of that electronic music is still a genre with many possibilities to create good pieces of art.

Album: De La Soul:3 Feet High and Rising (1989)
Nominated By: Jump Guru
Reason: It is a very influential hip hop album in the music industry and was also included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The album is a classic and deserves a Album of the Week. 3 Feet High and Rising has seven influential singles as well taht are famous among the hip hop community. These singles have also charted Billboard Hot 100, Hot Rap Singles, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, Hot Dance Music/Club Play, and Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales many times.

Album: Stevie Ray Vaughan:The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble (2002)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Stevie Ray Vaughan's career was short and his ending was tragic, but this compilation album remains to help remind music fans of his influence. Spanning two discs, it includes popular tracks like "Texas Flood" and "Pride and Joy" from Texas Flood, "Cold Shot" and the title track from Couldn't Stand The Weather, and "The House Is Rockin'" and "Crossfire" from In Step. And SRV's live catalogue is represented as well, in the form of favorites like "Willie The Wimp", "Superstition", and an awesome 12-minute jam of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". I think any music fan, whether you know Stevie Ray Vaughan or not, will enjoy this album.

Album: Metallica:...And Justice For All (1988)
Nominated By: 6metal6
Reason: Released in 1988, ...And Justice for All is arguably Metallica's greatest album, having just lost just their bassist, and close friend, Cliff Burton, the band pulled themselves together to produce an album of sheer brilliance. Featuring songs such as "One", "Harvester of Sorrow", "Blackened", "Dyers Eve" and "To Live Is to Die", there was definitely a strong betrayal of dominance at the time of it's release. There is no doubt in my mind that Metallica is one of the greatest bands of all time, if not the greatest. Though you may not be a Metallica fan, or you may not be into that type of music, I would strongly recommend this album to you. Listen to the opening track "Blackened" and enjoy. Album: Nine_Inch_Nails:Year_Zero_(2007)
Nominated By: salmanj1
Reason: Year zero is not just an album, it is an experience. The album has it's own game, it's viral marketing was simply amazing and it's a soundtrack to a movie never made.. Being a concept album, each song has a purpose. A meaning. The lyrics are truly thought provoking and the music brilliantly mixed. The album is a must listen for everyone and is Nine Inch nails best effort since The downward spiral. I believe the critically acclaimed album truly deserves a mention on the front page!

Album: Alter Bridge:Blackbird (2007)
Nominated By: ABFan
Reason: Blackbird is one of my favorite albums of all time. Each track is unique, expresses each band member's talent, and has deep and meaningful lyrics. Songs such as Blackbird, Rise Today, and Watch Over You show Mark Tremonti's amazing skills in guitar playing, Myles Kennedy's amazing vocal talent.

Album: John Mayall:Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton (1966)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: Frequently hailed as one of the most influential electric blues albums of all time, it was the album that truly introduced Eric Clapton to the music scene. His guitar playing on John Mayall classics like "Little Girl", "Key To Love", and "Have You Heard" is fantasic. And his explosive solos on "Steppin' Out" rival his later recording of "Crossroads" with Cream. And "Ramblin' On My Mind" was the first time Clapton performed lead vocals. All in all, it's a definite requirement for any music collector.

Album: Hollywood Undead:Swan Songs (2008)
Nominated By: 96.28.208.80
Reason: This is the debut album for one of the next big groups in my opinion. Using masks like Slipknot and lyrics that sound similar to that of Eminem, they are a promising act. Swan Songs clocks in at about 49 minutes. The lyrics are meaningful and at some times funny and there are some good riffs in here. The album has 14 tracks and they are all amazing. Among the best are "Undead", "No.5", "Young", and "City", but don't get me wrong the rest is good too. This album is great for a debut. The album is full of great moments. Hollywood Undead is great and I am looking forward to the follow-up album.

Album: Neutral Milk Hotel:In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (1998)
Nominated By: Crocodilewerewolf
Reason: This album is just one of those indie rock gems of the 90s. It seems to resist categorization quite easily, blending dozens of genres together to create a truly mystifying album. At the surface, it's not an easy album to break through: its layers of distortion, out of tune trumpets and even more out of tune vocals can be disconcerting to even the most passionate independent music listener. At its core however lies a beautiful concept: the album paints a picture of all the emotional implications and associations of the life of Anne Frank. It delves deep into a very human subject. It's about Anne Frank, but not really. It took me quite a while to really digest this album, but when I finally did after almost a year of pondering and contemplating its message and musical merits, the experience was indeed deeply rewarding. Though it may divide many indie rock listeners, there is no denying that Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is an album with extraordinary impact and influence.

Album: Cream:Royal Albert Hall London May 2-3-5-6 2005 (2005)
Nominated By: Cubs Fan2007
Reason: The long-awaited Cream reunion was one of the most anticipated concerts of 2005. And it's got everything to satisfy even the smallest Cream fan, including hits like "I'm So Glad", "Crossroads", "White Room", and naturally, "Sunshine Of Your Love". The concert also featured the first time the band had played the numbers "Pressed Rat & Warthog" and "Badge" live. It's hard to believe it's been almost five years since the reunion, but the album is still a classic in my collection.

Album: Nick Drake:Five Leaves Left (1969)
Nominated By: Superman Jr.
Reason: Nick Drake died tragically in 1974 at the age of 26 as a result of drug overdose. His struggles with depression often showed in the lyrics to his music. Although he didn't gain much popularity through his three studio albums, his music has since grown in popularity. Five Leaves Left is Drake's first album, containing the beautiful guitar and orchestral sounds of "Day Is Done", "Cello Song", and others.

Album: The Streets:Original Pirate Material (2002)
Nominated By: 91.128.103.113 11:59, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Reason: His debut-album is definitely his best. It shows that there is a british hip-hop and that it ain't bad. It is about things we all know and we can all identify with. Starting with the Statement "Turn The Page, after showing some porblems of society (i.e. "Geezerz Need Excitement" or The Irony Of It All") it ends with the encouraging song "Stay Postive" - which is full of wisdom - and in fact, he's right, in such hard times like now, stay postitiv - it's all you can do.

[edit] Preferred Date Nominations

Album: U2:Boy (1980)
Nominated By: 190.86.227.46
Reason: This is the first album of the band, and one great too, i like each and every song of it, it was the beginning of one of the best alternative/post-punk rock band of all times, and a great date would be it's 29th aniversary (20 october) or the 33rd aniversary of the founding of this band, named back then "Feedback", and the beginning of something great
Preferred Date: 20 October (Boy's Release) or 25 September (Feedback's Founding)

Album: Cannibal Corpse:Tomb Of The Mutilated (1992)
Nominated By: 6metal6
Reason: Brutal death metal at it's best. Seen as one of they're most controversial albums, Cannibal Corpse released Tomb Of The Mutilated in 1992. Due to the violent and sexual nature of the album, it was later banned in Germany, New Zealand and Australia (along with many of albums to come), receiving little to no commercial recognition. Songs on the album are violent, shocking and just, gross. But absolutely brilliant in they're creativity and story telling. Songs include Hammer Smashed Face, Split Wide Open and Beyond The Cemetery, i've deliberately avoided the most brutal for everyone's sake. An album of unbelievable power. An album of unholy greatness. An album that proves death metal is better, if the lyrics are gore filled. Listen to opening track Hammer Smashed Face. Enjoy.

Preferred Date: From 22nd September. Seventeen years since it's release, and still disturbing the world.

[edit] Pending Revision

Album: Hawthorne Heights:Fragile Future (2008)
Nominated By: Caitlyn
Reason: This newest album from Hawthorne Heights shows the determination of one band who's messages will continue to be thrown into people's minds after the overdose of their guitarist, Casey Calvert. The songs "The Business of Paper Stars" and "Sugar In the Engine" are built with even more smoothly-distorted guitar rage.
Problem: Needs revision (more substance to reason), see instructions on nominating above.

Album: Cake:Fashion Nugget (1996)
Nominated By: Seballard
Reason: Some great grooves...you don't go for a rollercoaster ride. The song selection and placement is gradual, ever slowly ascending to the "pièce de résistance" that is "Nugget (edit)" John McCrea for President.
Problem: Needs revision (more substance to reason), see instructions on nominating above.

Album: Fresh Cut Salads:Vitamin Sea (2006)
Nominated By: waadee
Reason: This band is from Philadelphia. The band is not yet signed to a record label, but if you listen to it, you will just wonder why. All the songs in the album are masterpieces, especially songs like "I Can't Stop This Feeling","Importance of Gradients" and "Dysgitimate Child." Their sound is both avant garde and classic jazz pop experimental. The album is available as a sample at their website.
Problem: Album page and song pages do not exist.

Album: Bryan Adams:11 (2008)
Nominated By: 91.58.82.2
Reason: The new album from the Canadian Rocker Number One. I think, you'll need to hear this CD more than once (perhaps five or six times) but then it really grapples you! My favourite songs are: "Tonight We Have The Stars", "Somethin' To Believe In", "Oxygen".
Problem: Needs revision (more substance to reason), see instructions on nominating above.

Album: Pearl Jam:Ten (1991)
Nominated by: Arcai
Reason: Ten by Pearl Jam is the top-selling grunge album and alternative rock album in America. It also has many hits, such as "Even Flow", "Alive", and "Jeremy". There's also the fan-favorite "Black". It was also a major influence on grunge and modern alternative rock.
Problem: Needs revision (more substance to reason), see instructions on nominating above.

Album: Metallica:Ride The Lightning (1984)
Nominated By: 68.117.7.21
Reason: Metallica are so great for making this album. No wonder they are 1 of 4 great thrash metal bands!
Problem: Needs revision (more substance to reason), see instructions on nominating above.

Album: Guns N' Roses:Chinese Democracy (2008)
Nominated By: Darthdurden
Reason: This is one of the most anticipated albums in the history of music. Whether it ends up being good or not it is still very notable and deserves to be the album of the week as it is easily the biggest musical news of the week. Sure there is no Slash, but what I have heard isn't that bad, some of it even good to great. At the same time some of what I have heard are big misses and show the 15 year growing pains the album and band has gone through.
Problem: Excuse me for being a little informal, but I think we need a better reason for putting this on the front page, it should have at least been heard. If you would like to submit music news see this link

Album: Machine Head:The Blackening (2007)
Nominated By: writer239
Reason: The Blackening is a stunning array of metal and social issues. Each of these songs have unique meanings and the lyrical themes cover topics that range from love, war, suicide, organized retaliation, and anger in society. Armed with an impressive array of fans and heavy beats, Machine Head couldn't do it better.
Problem: Needs revision (a little more substance to reason), see instructions on nominating above.
