Amarok LyricWiki.org Lyrics Plugin
I found this plug-in for the media player Amarok (through Google, since I use Winamp) that grabs LyricWiki lyrics.
http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=39724
Posted the link in case anyone's interested. Could an Amarok user let us know how good the script is? Maybe anyone looking to develop a Winamp plug-in could learn a thing or two from it. Has anyone found LyricWiki scripts for any other media players? Consonance 21:35, 27 May 2006 (PDT)
- That's cool that someone made a plugin for it! Another one of our users (Stradicaster) has made a C# program that grabs lyrics from LyricWiki for the current song you are playing in WinAmp. It's not a plugin yet, but either he or someone else can hopefully make it into a full-fledged plugin. -Sean Colombo 01:21, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I made the plug-in when I had a few days off last week. Decided that if I could get more people to use the site it might help it grow, so I posted it for download. The plugin is pretty simple and works effectively, but does have a few kinks to work out (namely that it doesn't display special characters like á à ç or ã properly). I might also look at collecting the data from the XML displayed by the Special:Export function in a future revision, so that little changes to the site don't make the plugin have a heart attack (eg. the page titles switching from "lyrics by LyricWiki" to "LyricWiki"). -Shawn (Rede) 02:54, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- thanks heaps for the plugin, I get sick of downloading dodgy lyrics from lyrc.com, and I wouldn't have been aware of lyricwiki.org if I hadn't found the amarok script. one improvement I could suggest would be to allow user to submit lyrics to lyricwiki.org, or to edit ones that are there already and have problems. you'd get a huge amount more support for lyricwiki if it was made to easier to add lyrics, as then there wouldn't be so many missing (I think only about 30% of my library is on here, if that) --naught101 02:59, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
- There seems to be a problem: When a songtext has Extra Information like a SongFooter or Category, those things will also be displayed in the amarok lyric-window. Btw, I also got this site to know by that plugin - greets. Socke
- If a page doesn't have the standard formatting it won't be parsed properly, so you might get the extra information. Pages containing lyrics that are surrounded by the "lyrics" and "/lyrics" tags will always display properly, and if the extra information is in a seperate section denoted by a heading surrounded by two ='s the script will not contain that information or any after it. Its not perfect, but I can't account for the way anyone could change any page. -Shawn (Rede) 03:28, 08 October 2006 (PDT)
- I'm not saying the script is bad. I rather like it, changed from xmms to amarok to have a lyricscript... Well, the lyric is within the tags, look for example http://www.lyricwiki.org/Ton_Steine_Scherben:Mama_war_so - the Songfooter tag is shown, the Song tag not. Socke 05:35, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

WinAmp Plugin
Currently a user has made a C# program that can get the lyrics for the currently-playing song from LyricWiki.org, but this is not an extension or plugin yet.
- I'm working on it to making it perfect so I will not release it before at least I add an automated update function in it. For now it get songs directly and so dependent on mp3 tags. It's on my to do list. Also I made it a standalone program because I really don't like plugins but it's not much different from a plugin because it is not working without Winamp. But if we make a little linker between this and winamp as a plugin which automaticly opens LyricGrabber, it will be good. I uploaded a screenshot just to make you more curious :); Media:LyricGrabber.jpg. 04:34, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I made a website for the program. You can download it from there: LyricGrabber. Also it's like a beta or something please return with feedback. -- 08:22, 1 June 2006 (PDT)
LyricGrabber Beta Feedback
- Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself by making a section for feedback, but it might be useful. Anyway, the program boots up quickly, and it responds almost instantly to WinAmp. It recognizes when songs are changed, and it's quick to discover when lyrics are nowhere to be found. Retrieving lyrics takes a few seconds on my cable connection, after which they appear in the program. Here arises my big complaint: The colors. Really, black text on a dark grey background? You'll have to change the color scheme (I'd really like it if I could choose the colors, bonus points for automatically deriving the colors from the WinAmp skin). One thing I'd like to see also is the ability to make the song title display editable, in case there's in error in the title and can't figure out why no lyrics are found (or some reason like that). - Thanks for the feedback! I will try to add these features in next version. For now I fixed some bugs and added <lyrics> tag support. But a new final wave is coming for me at university, after it I think an auto-updating version will be out. -- 02:46, 3 June 2006 (PDT)
First Finished Release (0.8)
- Last Friday I finished much of needed changes also I added <lyrics> tag and fixed some bugs. Program now doesn't need winamp to get lyrics, I added Consonance idea, an editable textbox, so that you can get which lyric you want. All features can be seen from here, LyricGrabber Update Log. The program itself can be downloaded from here. -- 10:53, 11 June 2006 (PDT)
- Well, I've tested the new version, and every complaint I mentioned in my last review has been resolved. As far as suggestions go, I think it would be great if there could be a default folder for saving lyrics: so, when opting to save found lyrics to the hard drive, the program could suggest a location in the textbox specifying the folder path. - 0.8.1 OUT!. I added seeklyrics.com if lyrics can not be found in LyricWiki. It would be helpful to detect and easily add them to LyricWiki I think. Also it would be a patch for connection problems to LyricWiki. I forgot to add default save folder, next time :). You can get it as usual from lyrics.spturk.com. -- 03:25, 27 June 2006 (PDT)
- Umm...I just downloaded it and tried it, and it doesn't seem to be checking lyricwiki at all. I listened to two songs I know for sure are on lyricwiki, and it took like ten seconds and then kept saying "Lyrics cannot be found on seeklyrics." Also, even though it couldn't find them, it kept looking, which is probably not ideal behavior. A third problem I had was that when I had winamp open, even when it wasn't playing, the text bar kept updating, so that I couldn't look anything up manually. Sorry for the list of complaints, but I think this could be a really useful tool once the kinks are ironed out. Telyni 00:33, 30 December 2006 (EST)
- Thanks for the feedback. When you tried Lyricgrabber, there would be connection problem to lyricwiki. And after searching in Lyricwiki Lyricgrabber looks for lyrics on seeklyrics, that's why it didn't stop. Also names of the songs you tried would be helpful, all the pages are not in the same format in LyricWiki unluckily(can be another problem). Manual search works if you don't listen anything in Winamp, else it would search for your input but save as it is the song you're listening. 04:30, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
- Hey there! First of all thanks for your great work! I got a problem with the lyrics to '9 Crimes' by Damien Rice. They are correct on LyricWiki but when LyricGrabber shows them there's a part missing in the middle (3rd verse, after "It's the wrong kind of" there should be "place to be cheating on you" but it shows something from the beginning of the next verse). 84.132.102.196 16:54, 4 February 2007 (EST)
- Thanks, I'll use Lyricwiki's SOAP API when I can find spare time for LyricGrabber. After that I hope there would be no problems about that. 04:30, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
