The lyrics are taken from various parts of the scenic cantata Carmina Burana (1936) by Carl Orff. Sephiroth itself is a feminine plural Hebrew noun for "Books", possibly a Kabbalic reference. This song has a different set of lyrics in its revised version, Sairin: Katayoku no Tenshi ~Advent: One-Winged Angel~, from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005).
