• The translation tries to be close to the original German lyrics, there is a translation by Rammstein themselves which might get the meaning of the song across better, but it's somewhat different from the German version.
• The lyrics are a play on traditional wedding vows.

There are two plays on words:

• The German hast ('have') is pronounced the same as the German hasst ('hate'), so in the beginning it can mean both. Rammsteins translation uses the word hate.
• "Willst du bis zum Tod, der scheide". Depending on the capitalization of the word scheide it means:
  • der scheide - that seperates
  • der Scheide - of the vagina
