Personally i don't like the method of lyric notation being used in lyricwiki. The use of <pre> tags are very restrictive, and not at all aesthetically pleasing.
I suppose i jumped in the deep end when starting with this wiki. I started with Pain Of Salvation, in particular the Pain Of Salvation:BE (2004) album. The album has a complex structure with multiple characters, interweaving lyrics (sung in parallel), and background narratives (sub-stories often spoken as news stories or radio interviews), all of which i feel are important to the album. I also feel it useful to include translations for Latin words used in the album, and would like to write them in italics or some other effect to differentiate them from the actual lyrics.

Issues Encountered
Here is a short list of issues encountered:
- Lacking formatting (bold, italics, colouring). Would be useful for:
- specifying the character who sings the lines
- translations of foreign words
- performance notes (if the lyrics are foreground or background, are they sung, whispered, growled, etc)
- single long continous lines of text are not wrapped.
- there is no format for indicating lyrics sung in parallel
Suggestions
I think there should be a wiki tag used to allow white space to be preserved, but that also allows other wiki tags to work. <pre> tags keep white space, but they also supress any other notations. <pre> tags also force the css box around them. This should be fairly easy to implement for anyone who knows how to write extensions for mediawiki. I intend to have a look at it, but it could be quite a while before i have enough time to sit down and have a proper look.
There should be a set of standards defining formatting for certain elements:
Character or voice
Ian:
la la la
John:
la la la
Notes
(Note)
Translations
Nova (This unfortunately is not print friendly)
Interpretations
spoken narrative
parallel volcals
Ian:
la la la
John:
la la la
subtitles
(secondary song titles)
linking songs
on the same album (importnat for concept albums), and possibly albums by the same band

Other issues
Another general mediawiki problem i found and was unable to solve without resorting to html formatting was setting an ordered lists start value. This became a problem when listing songs in an album with chapters.
